Micro Review of “No Strings Attached”

I went into this movie expecting it to be Hollywood, formulated vomit. I had actually wanted to see the Mechanic, but this was the only film playing. And I have to say, it’s not too bad. But in reading this review do try to keep in mind that I have estrogen; my opinion is going to very greatly from a human that lacks it.

There’s not a whole lot that can be dissected from this film since 70% of it is just two attractive people enjoying each other. And the look of the film is nothing extraordinary. The settings look great and the coloration is nothing profound. Overall, the movie was put together very well.

It was a slight surprise to see both Natalie Portman and Ivan Reitman with executive producer credits, but it was a bigger shock to see Cary Elwes in a role you wont even recognize him in until you see his name in the credits.

Two of the biggest downsides to this film is that the story is so sugar sweet that there is nearly no conflict to move it along, and that Ahston Kutcher and Natalie Portman feel very one dimensional in their performances of sensitive guy and ice princess.

If I had to think up anything being memorable from this film, it’d be the unique touch of seeing a menstrual mix CD, Portman shouting a few obscene one-liners, and seeing Mindy Kaling from The Office.

To lay it down straight, this is very much a feel good, chick flick. Take a date to see this one, but other wise, RENT IT.
